Jack
In September 2013, at age 8, Jack was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in his right femur. He began chemotherapy right away and in January 2014 underwent a femur and knee replacement surgery to remove the tumor. He successfully completed treatment in May 2014. Fifteen months later, the day we were leaving on our Make A Wish trip, we received the call from our oncologist that the cancer had returned to Jack’s left lung. My husband and I, devastated, chose to keep the secret and go enjoy the Make A Wish trip. Upon our return we told Jack the news. In September 2015, Jack began treatment again, had his left lung removed, endured 30 days of radiation treatment, and was finally NED (No Evidence of Disease) once again. Unfortunately, 15 months later, Jack was diagnosed for a third time with Osteosarcoma in his vertebrate from C1-C4. We were told he wouldn’t survive.
Jack not only survived, he has been NED for three years this month. Jack is 15 years old now, entering high school, and living his best life. While the treatment he has had to endure, his body is beat up. Thankfully we came across MaxLove Project. MLP taught us how to help Jack thrive in the face of the harsh treatments he had to have to save his life. Proper nutrition, acupuncture, helping us find the right cannabis partner, teaching us how to keep Jack’s brothers — the “Super Sibs” — loved and cared for in this journey, and helping us to get in contact with someone to find the right counselor, MaxLove has been there for us every step of the way. — Shan, Jack’s Momma
